Merci Paris goes green and yellow for Spring

One of our favorite shops Merci in Paris changes it up for Spring this year.  They have switched out the little red mini for green grass, a yellow farm truck and beautiful flowers.  I am sure it is so amazing to see in person.  The switch was made with the expertise of  David Jeannerrot and the team at Les Mauvaises Graines, check out their interview with him here.  Just another reason to stop by the shop if you are visiting Paris, it has become a destination in itself,  and make sure you take a few moments to have a snack in their little bookshop cafe too if you are there.

Planting: Eden and Evelyn roses

Lately I have been a little obsessive about my garden, here in California the sun has been shining and it has been pretty warm so I have been feeling like it is the perfect time to get started on really planting my garden.  It is a bit of a challenge for me as we took almost everything out of our yard last year when we put in the pool, so I have been planning and scheming for months as to what I could plant.  I have been dreaming of these two beauties for much longer than that and finally I should be able to plant some in the next few weeks.  If I can just find them at the nursery, I am a little ahead of the game this year, so I am patiently awaiting their arrival.  Eden and Evelyn are two of my favorite roses... I am so excited!

I know that just about everyone has a favorite and I would love to hear which roses you prefer.  I am looking for more ideas and have a lot of space to fill.

They are described as having a double or full head... which to means perfect.

David Austin describes the Evelyn as follows: bears giant, apricot colored flowers of a shallow, saucer-like shape, with numerous small petals inter-twined within. This is not the most vigorous of English Roses, but the individual flower is absolutely magnificent. Its great glory is its wonderful fragrance, which is similar in style to an Old Rose, but with a sumptuous fruity note reminiscent of fresh peaches and apricot. Named on behalf of Crabtree & Evelyn, who used it in their range of rose perfumes.

The photo below is from Sharon at My French Country Home.  She has the most amazing garden and I found myself stalking her blog over the weekend looking for ideas..

Grey in the garden..

The simple clean feeling in this garden is so alluring!   I am leaning towards this style for our garden in the front of the house.  The little rabbits are less likely to nibble on these drought tolerant guys too which is a huge plus!  Hopefully this year we can put that plan into action!

Versailles: The gardens

In celebration of our One Kings Lane sale I thought it might be nice to share a few more pictures from our trip to Paris from the spring.  We had a chance to visit Versailles again and the gardens never fail to amaze me.  I love the variety and the simplicity of the beauty created here.  They sky is my all time favorite part about this place.  Each time we have visited we have been greeted with the most beautiful sky and brisk sun drenched evenings.  I like to stay until well after the Palace closes so that we can enjoy the gardens basically alone, aside from a few stragglers and the French who are there to exercise.

Please take a minute to visit our sale- there are so many great pieces left!!

Notre Dame through the trees

I know it is not Spring it is surely Fall here but I was looking for some photos and came across my Paris pictures again, there are really alot of them!  I wanted to share a few more with you.  We visited Notre Dame on a cloudy rainy day and the light was so lovely through the green foliage of Spring.  The flowers were a bit worse for ware but still beautiful.

We have another busy week here on the blog as I prepare for the Holiday giveaway series and get ready to host a couple of book giveaways over the next few weeks.  As well as trying to bring you some amazing pictures to inspire your holidays.  Happy Tuesday!

Garden Inspiration from Arne Maynard..

Finding inspiration for the garden seems like it would not be difficult but I am not sure that I have found this much in just one place as of late.  I am deeply in love with the outdoor spaces that Arne Maynard has created and will be referring back to them often as I start to plant again here in our garden.  I think I may love everything I see.

Flowers of Giverny

I hope you had a wonderful weekend!  I spent some much needed time just relaxing and working on planning my trip.  This time we will not be visiting Giverny, but our last visit was so fun and beautiful I thought I would share it with you today.  My garden has been on my mind lately as I am going to have to start fresh once we are finished with the pool.  I cannot wait to gather more ideas from the beautiful gardens on our upcoming visit.

Design Traveler: Trip planning

I don't know about you but I am a total trip planner..  I like to have an itinerary that notes just about everything (there is always a section for free time-but it is noted!)  I was at dinner with my Mom and Sister last week and my Sister said to me- "I don't like to travel with anyone else, you always have everything planned.  I don't have to worry about anything, I know our next move and what I am supposed to be doing when I get there."  Some people love this and let's face it some do not love it.  I am a planner, I have to have all of this in one place or I will never find it when I need it most, because on top of being a planner I am always a little bit late and a little bit frazzled!  This type of pre planning keeps the vacation moving for me and those with me or we would never make a decision.

So I have been planning our trip for the past few weeks and I keep finding more things I would like to do.  I have been to Paris several times and there are so many wonderful parts, I want to see something new each and every time but I still want to visit my favorites for a second, third, fourth.. well you get the idea.  I have been stalking Paris blogs and I have fallen deeply for this one.. Paris in Four Months, mostly because she is living a dream and because her images are beautiful, but also because she is posting about sweets around Paris a lot!!!

So now I have too many things on our list and I think we will be running from one musee to the next or I might have to eliminate something somewhere.. so sad! (But so exciting at the same time!)

I would love to hear how you plan for your trips?  Do you make a list and do what you feel like when you arrive?  Do you plan every outfit for every occassion including accessories, like one of my best friends?  Do you fly by the seat of your pants?
